Movie and debate on Bergen Cinema
Norways' double role in Colombia is the theme for this evenings screening and debate.
Through the Government Pension Fund Global (commonly known as the Oil Fund), Norway holds a 3.41% ownership stake in the multinational company Smurfit Westrock, one of the world’s largest producers of paper and cardboard. In Colombia, Smurfit Westrock operates monoculture plantations of eucalyptus and pine, which contribute to the displacement of small-scale farmers and Indigenous peoples from their territories, as well as environmental degradation such as water pollution and soil depletion. One example of this is found in the municipality of Cajibío, in the Cauca region.
