By showcasing outstanding non-fiction and fiction from across the globe, this festival aims to develop an understanding of our world and humanity's place in it. 

LitFestBergen is characterised by literary, linguistic, cultural and geographic diversity. It seeks to be bold and innovative, while simultaneously being accessible to a broad audience. 

Next year's festival theme is Betrayal – a universal theme that is present both in world literature and our own contemporary society. From ancient tragedies to today's headlines, from intimate breakups to large scale betrayals between nations – this is the stuff we read about, write about and live with – personally, politically and literarily. But language also offers reconciliation. During the festival, we open up space for what hurts, but also for community, reflection and dialogue.
