Russia is heading for the polls – why bother?

The outcome of the upcoming parliamentary election in Russia is predetermined, making it the least suspenseful election this year. However, elections in authoritarian regimes are not meaningless. They can reveal public attitudes and help governments project control.

We will explore how the Russian authorities use propaganda and disinformation to shape public opinion. Does political attitude differ across generations and demographic groups, and what does it reveal about support for the regime?

How is the state of the Russian economy today, and how does it affect ordinary Russians? Is there a functioning political opposition in Russia today and what is the function of the Duma? Why are they even holding election?
