Bergen Akuttmedisinske Studentforening (BAMS)
Bergen Akuttmedisinske Studentforening (BAMS) is a student association at the Faculty of Medicine, UiB. The students who work in BAMS promote emergency medicine as a field; believing there is too little emergency medicine in the curriculum for the medical students, and that the students feel they get too little practical training in this field. BAMS wants to do something about this.
By influencing the faculty to introduce more emergency medicine into the curriculum, BAMS hope to improve the course and make future doctors more competent in the field. In the spring of 2012, BAMS was commissioned by Programutvalget for medisin to develop a curriculum in emergency medicine. The assignment was completed in collaboration with doctors and teachers, submitting proposals about courses and activities that the group believes should be included in their studies. BAMS has also worked to change the curriculum for those in the first year of their bachelor.
BAMS also gives students opportunities to brush up on their knowledge outside of lectures. Interested students can become members of BAMS and participate in various events. Members can, among other things, take part in monthly member evenings, themed evenings, training evenings, tours of the hospital, and courses. BAMS hopes this will make the students better prepared for the challenges they will face in their professional life.
