Hulen
Student run concert venue and pub in a Second World War bomb shelter.
Hulen opened the 17th of May 1969 and is the oldest rock club in Northern Europe. The name Hulen is translated into “The Cave”, a fitting name for a venue situated underground. Since its opening, Hulen has played an important role in the student community of Bergen, both socially and culturally. Twice Hulen has been awarded with the title “Concert organiser of the year” by Norske Konsertarrangører. A title stating that the venue is well known for providing the people of Bergen with high quality concert experiences.
Hulen hosts both well-established and up-and-coming artists from genres such as rock, indie, heavy metal, hiphop and jazz. Mogwai, Nouvelle Vague, Turboneger, The New Pornographers and Satyricon are just some of the internationally renowned bands that have played in Hulen. Great music and a crowded dance floor are guaranteed.
For decades the unique location and the atmosphere of Hulen has captured students' hearts. It is completely run by volunteers, who work in exchange for free entrance at concerts and a vibrant social environment. We have students volunteer as bartenders, hosts, DJs, maintenance workers, graphic designers, photographers amongst other things.
