Blæst Big band
Blæst is one of the country's oldest student big bands and is associated with the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
The band mainly consists of students at HVL, campus Bergen, as well as some veterans and students from other institutions in Bergen. The repertoire consists of varied big band music, everything from old standards to newer, modern big band songs. During the year, Blæst usually has about 4–6 gigs. Most are gigs for paying clients, but we also arrange our own concerts.
Bæst is a standard big band with a line-up consisting of 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, vocalist and accompaniment (guitar, piano, bass and drums).
Who can join?
Students at HVL are given priority in the admission of new members. The band is supplemented with students from other institutions and, if applicable, former students. Musicians in the rhythm section should have some band experience, such as jazz bands or big bands. For wind instrumentalists, no band experience is required, only the ability to read a musical sheet
